The Future Is Bright For Nail Yakupov
After scoring 170 career points in 2 seasons with the Sarnia Sting, Nail Yakupov cemented his place as a Sting legend and a 1st overall draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. From there, things didn’t go as planned.
He had a decent showing in his rookie campaign, scoring 17 goals and 31 total points in 48 games. The next two seasons were a mighty struggle where he tallied a combined 25 goals, 57 points and a league-worst plus/minus rating of -68 in 144 total games.
Enter Connor McDavid.
The 1st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft is already showing signs of becoming a legend of the sport, and Nail Yakupov will be one player who greatly benefits from this. These two players have made a great pairing so far, and the numbers show it. McDavid has 9 points in 9 games, Yakupov has 8, good enough for those two to be 1st and 2nd in team scoring and placing both of them in the league’s Top 30 scorers.
I have no idea if this trend will continue, but there’s no signs of either of those players slowing down. As a fan of Nail Yakupov, here’s hoping we see more moments like this:
