The ‘Audio Illusion’ That Is Causing An Intense Online Debate

Instagram user Cloe Feldman posted this yesterday asking the simple question: Do you hear “Yanny” or “Laurel”?

I hear “Yanny.” I try listening for “Laurel” but just don’t hear it. Sue hears “Laurel” though, so it’s already a cause for debate here at the radio station.

You may hear one word and ask yourself, “How can anyone hear the other word?”, but the internet is completely divided on this simple “audio illusion” for lack of a better term. Some say that it’s both words overlapping, while others claim that the word changes when you adjust the volume or bass.

What do you hear?
