Greenhouse Appeal Withdrawn

The sun is shining again on a proposed greenhouse complex in St Clair Township. Resident Greg Barr has withdrawn an Ontario Municipal Board appeal. He had expressed concerns about Envirofresh Produce's plans to grow sweet bell peppers on 170 acres owned by Terra International. Envirofresh V-P Mark Huzevka says Barr's concerns have been resolved. The company hopes to start construction as soon as possible, with the first crop produced by next spring. The site is located east of the St.Clair Parkway and south of Courtright.
Unsafe For Swimming

A few Lambton Area beaches have been posted as unsafe for swimming heading into the weekend. Signs warning of high levels of e-coli bacteria have been posted at Pinery Provincial Park. Warning signs remain posted at Ipperwash Main Beach. All other beaches tested are clear, they include Grand Bend, Highland Glen, Bright's Grove and Canatara Park. Signs have been permanently posted at Branton Cundick Park and Brander Park advising of high levels of E. coli bacteria following heavy rainfall.
Chlorine Leak

No environmental impact reported following a chlorine leak at Terra International Friday morning. City police were asked to assist with traffic control on St.Clair Parkway as a precaution. Plant Manager Allan Nixon says an automatic shutdown was conducted immediately following the leak. The situation at the nitrogen manufacturer lasted a total of 20 minutes, and the all clear was issued at 10:45am. Nixon says the Ministry of Environment has been notified. No injuries are reported.
Suncor Maintenance Switch

Suncor officials stress there will be no change in the number of maintenance personnel at their Sarnia refinery. Company spokesman Jason Vaillant says they're aiming for a seamless transition as Australian-based Transfield Asset Management takes over from Jacobs Canada. Vaillant says they're working with the unions to ensure the change is made as smooth as possible. He says some of the supervisors may change but the number of maintenance personnel will remain steady at about 125.
Motorcycle Crash

A 49 year old Brampton man has been charged with failing to yield to traffic following a pick-up truck, motorcycle accident at the corner of Mandaumin Road and London line. Police were called to the scene around 8:30 Friday morning. Police say a southbound pick up truck pulled out into the path of a motorcycle. It's driver, 27 year old Christopher Richardson of Watford, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening, lower-body injuries.
