Maren Morris leads this year’s ACM Awards nominations, tied for most with six: Female Artist of the Year, which she took home at last year’s awards; Single of the Year and Song of the Year (as writer and performer) for her hit “The Bones;” Group of the Year with The Highwomen; and Video of the Year for “ Better Than We Found It,” on which Maren partnered with emerging director Gabby Woodland for whom this is the first nomination.

We caught up with Maren just before the nominations were announced, and while she didn’t know which awards she’d be up for, she was very interested to see who would get nominated in such an off-year due to COVID.

“I’m super excited. There’s been so much great music and it’s been such a creative time for artists in our genre. This last year even though no one can tour, some amazing albums and singles have been released so I’m . . . this is like our first real nomination cycle for an award show to come out after a year of COVID, so I’m wondering, like, where the nominations go because it’s just been the weirdest year of the music industry.”

The ACM Awards will air live from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium and Bluebird Cafe on Sunday, April 18th at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Maren is also up for a Grammy for Best Country Song for “The Bones” at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

The song topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for 19 consecutive weeks and was the first solo female multi-week Number One at country radio since 2012. The Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 14th in Los Angeles and will air live on CBS beginning at 8 p.m.
