“Tennessee Whisky” Goes Diamond For Chris Stapleton
Chris Stapleton was presented with a plaque commemorating the diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (R.I.A.A.) for surpassing 10 million units sold of his version of “Tennessee Whiskey.”
“Tennessee Whiskey” was included on Chris’ 2015 debut album, Traveller.
He explained why he wanted to record a cover of this particular song.
“’Tennessee Whiskey’ is a song that I love. Certainly, if you try to cover a George Jones or David Allan Coe, you can’t try to out-George Jones George Jones or anything like that. So, if you’re gonna cover something like that, you need to try to move away from that and hopefully make it your own. We kind of happened upon this way of playing this song and had fun with it live and felt like it was something to record that was a good tip of the hat to things we grew up on and loved.”
Chris is nominated in three categories at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards — Best Country Album (Starting Over), Best Country Song (“Cold”) and Best Country Solo Performance (“You Should Probably Leave”).
The winners will be announced on January 31st in Los Angeles. The Grammys will air live on CBS beginning at 8 p.m.
